Lipstick is my Zoom Secret

I have this theory that no matter what is going on before I hop on that Zoom appointment, if I throw on some lipstick it says: “Hey, I meant to look like this”.
It used to be that I went into my lovely clinic a few times a week, hair done, dressed in scrubs, saw my patients, worked with my team, & taught in-person classes. I had a grand time and a fabulous separation between work and home life.

Then, just before the world came to a halt, I saw it coming. It was barely a headstart, but I took my whole clinic virtual overnight. It was absolutely the right move, but it meant my 1500 sf clinic just threw up in my house. No one could pass the threshold unless they were staff and HIPAA trained.
Welcome to running an existing clinic (albeit virtually), launching/reinventing the new Telemedicine version, holding space for patients, team & family dealing with uncertainty & a steep learning curve for new EMR software. Fun times.

In the effort for it all to work out (& it really, really did!), I had to let go of some things due to my schedule changes & new way of living. Forget showing up with hair straightened and full makeup if it then meant I couldn’t swim or garden or play…

So, I started rockin’ what I lovingly refer to as “middle-age chic” and just showed up as I am…with lipstick, of course!

Not a single patient yet has cared whether I had straight, glossy hair or wet curls from swimming or pig tails from gardening - they all just wanted to know what’s going on with their health!
